Swansea University Lacrosse Club Summer News

Swansea University Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams had an incredibly successful season last year. With an undefeated season in the Western 1A for the Men’s 1st team, 10 BUCS games were played against the University of Aberystwyth, University of Southampton, University of Exeter 2nds, University of Bristol 2nds and Plymouth. The team finished the season with a substantial goal difference of 132, only conceding 11 goals across all the games. The boys went on to win two promotion games which secured to the Western 1A league.

With this victory, the boys went on to their next game and arguably the biggest game of the playing against Cardiff in the 2019 Welsh Varsity. This was the first varsity win for the team for 7 years and won the team the ‘Varsity Team of the Year’ from Sports Swansea which ended a great season for this thriving team. The performance of the Men’s team lead to 15 of the team being selected to play for the Welsh Universities lacrosse team which played in the British National Championships in Manchester in May.

This summer several players (Henry Phillips, Ronan Wilcox, Tom Sell and Jacob Troth) were selected to play for Wales u20s in the U20s European championships held in the Prague, Czech Republic. They had an amazing time playing in July and now look forward to times ahead this season in the new league.

Early September then brought the first of many exciting away games as our Men’s and Women’s teams played in the Bath 8’s tournament. Both teams took some knocks and bruises but was a fun day all round as both played with great performance, in the lead up to the start of preseason training for our 1st teams.

With exciting times ahead, if you’re joining Swansea University, don’t to forget to come to the Freshers Fayre on Singleton and Bay Campus to talk to our club members and sign up to join our club.
