Interested in being a part of our team? Join our Members’ Facebook group here: facebook.com/groups/SUTVMembers. This is where we can communicate new opportunities, discuss our plans for new videos, arrange meetings, and generally discuss ideas. You need to be a current student at Swansea University to take part.
Don’t use Facebook? We get it. Speak to one of the friendly committee members or send an email to SUTV@swanseastudentmedia.com to let us know.
Where are we?Press to expand
SUTV is based alongside Xtreme Radio and Waterfront in the Swansea Student Media Offices. We moved over the summer and are now located on the ground floor of Fulton House (east side enterance), opposite Discovery, on Singleton Park Campus.
There may not always be someone about, so just let us know when you want to come by. You can hang out and socialise in the office, or get on with some video editing if you’re in the mood.
WorkshopsPress to expand
Continuing from the success of last academic year, we are running a series of free training sessions for students interested in joining SUTV. The idea is for you to get to know us in the committee, learn about how to use the equipment we have and gain some hands-on experience in video creation and production straight away. The workshops are designed for everyone of any ability, and include:
- Recording using our cameras
- Introduction to Video Editing
Dates for the workshops will be posted on the Facebook Members group.
We may run more workshops in Semester 2 if there is enough interest. We can also offer one-to-one training with members.

This year we are planning to increase the number of new video series and shows produced by our members, where members responsible for the show organise and edit it themselves with the guidance of committee members. We’re here to help and give our members vital experience working in a media environment. But the main aim is to have fun! So please get involved and send us your ideas.
Download the form below to fill in and send to us at SUTV@swanseastudentmedia.com.

FAQsPress to expand
- I’ve never done anything like this before, does that matter?
Not at all! Starting uni is one of the best opportunities you’ll probably ever get to try something new. And what better way than being apart of Swansea Student Media. You can do as much or as little as you fancy, and we’ll train you up so you can work on your own projects if you wish to. Don’t forget to get in touch whenever you need us.
2. When do you meet?
The good news is, there is no commitment to attending sessions on a regular basis. All opportunities to work on projects are posted on the Facebook Members’ group. There you can find out about events, ask questions and submit ideas. We don’t meet with everyone on a regular basis, since most of our projects often depend on other people and their availability. We have the odd social too; see below for more.
3. Does it take much of my time?
Up to you. You decide how much time you’d like to spend on our activities. Of course, all of your studies and academic commitments come first, hence why you’re here in the first place. However, often the more you put in, the more you get out of it. All we ask if that you are enthusiastic and try your best.
4. Can I do a bit for SUTV, Xtreme Radio and Waterfront?
Yes. You could be the next presenter of one of our video series, host your own radio show and write an article for one of the sections in Waterfront all in one day if you wanted. Visit the Contact page to get in touch with the committees of Xtreme Radio or Waterfront.
5. What’s in it for me?
In a nutshell, we take our cameras and record videos to upload to YouTube. But that’s not it, we live broadcast talks, work at the uni’s biggest events (ahem, free entry), work on editing and generate fresh ideas. By joining you also get the chance to attend industry events and work experience, support and training on the job and experience for your CV.
6. I’m living/studying at Bay Campus. How can I get involved?
Currently, we don’t have permanent provisions for Swansea Student Media at Bay Campus. Our equipment is stored in our office on Singleton Park Campus. Don’t worry though, you can still get involved in our activities. Many of the opportunities we advertise take place in different places in Swansea so you won’t be missing out. Perhaps worth considering a bus pass though if you will be traveling a fair bit.
7. Do you have socials and when are they?
We are somewhat of a party bunch, we promise. SUTV will organise social activities for members, but first we’d like to know what you like – send us any ideas using the Feedback form above. All events arranged by us will be advertised in the Facebook Members’ group. Our annual Swansea Student Media Awards take place in the final few weeks before we all go home for summer. Everyone involved in SUTV, Xtreme Radio and Waterfront are invited.
8. Can I get expenses reimbursed?
We cannot reimburse you for bus travel or any similar expenditure unfortunately. As students, we do try out best to provide some stuff for free. This can include socials and access to our equipment. If you have any concerns regarding expenses, please email SUTV@swanseastudentmedia.com and we can discuss individual needs.
9. Are you part of the Students’ Union?
Yep, we are one of the Union’s services, here to provide Swansea University students with a single information point for student life in Swansea. We supply news coverage, ignite debate and discussion, and capture what it’s like to be a student in our city. Visit https://www.swansea-union.co.uk/ for more info on volunteering.
10. Can I join without being a student?
Swansea Student Media is a voluntary organisation for students, it’s not a paid job. Every Swansea Uni students is automatically a member of the Union, and it’s completely free. This means you have access to all the Societies and Sports Clubs, along with opportunities such as Swansea Student Media. If you are not enrolled with a Student ID, you cannot join SUTV I’m afraid.
11. How can I tell you about my amazing idea?
You’re in luck – please download the Show Application Form to fill in suggestions for a new video project. If you would like to discuss this with the committee first, contact us via email.
12. I need to speak with someone, how do I go about this?
You can see us in person by arranging a meeting. You can speak with us by calling 01792 295988 during working hours. However you may get a quicker response via email. Contact the SUTV Committee at SUTV@swanseastudentmedia.com and we will endeavor to reply to your query within 5 workings days.
If your query is urgent, please speak with Student Voice on 01792 295 466.
