Tributes paid to SU staff member Ben Rees

The students’ union has paid tribute to one of its staff members, Ben Rees, who died while on a trip to Berlin.

Ben, 23, from Aberdare, worked in the union’s events team last year after gaining a history degree from the university in 2014. Ben was also a DJ on student club nights and a section editor for the Waterfront newspaper, writing the What’s On page.

A union spokesman said: “Swansea University Students’ Union is deeply saddened to hear of the death of our friend and colleague Ben Rees. Ben was a much loved and respected member of staff at the students’ union and his presence will be deeply missed. Our thoughts go out to Ben’s family and friends in this difficult time.”

Shocked friends also paid tribute to a man they described as “caring, outgoing and loving”.

Angharad Lee said: “Ben was such a caring outgoing loving person with such a big heart. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. I can’t even contemplate how hard this must be for you and you family. My thoughts are with you all xxx”

Lucy Andrews said: “I can’t quite believe what I’m reading. My thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. Ben was a completely wonderful person xx”
