Diverse flavours and unique interpretations: Maisie’s and their new menu

Following our recent article on the latest addition to the Swansea dining scene, Maisie’s Gin Bar and Restaurant, the team graciously invited us back to sample their newly released food and cocktail menus.

We each chose a dish to sample between us; them being The Gaucho, the Chicken Shawarma Kebab and the Waffle burger. The Gaucho, an 8 0z Sirloin steak cooked to your preference, came with the obligatory fries and salad as well as an intriguing Chimichurri sauce, which blew each of us away. It served as the perfect companion, adding that extra bit of vivacity to an already lively meal.

The chicken Shawarma was perfectly seasoned and served with fresh yoghurt and whole chunks of lemon that really brought the dish to life. Paired superbly with crisp sweet potato fries. Both the Gaucho and Shawarma also came served upon a toasted flatbread, enhancing the body and character of an already superb dish.

The final dish sampled was the waffle burger, containing tender BBQ pulled pork, a half-pound beef patty and all the trimmings. Let it be known that whoever birthed the idea of exchanging the brioche bun for waffles shall henceforth be considered a culinary GENIUS!

There are also a few options for vegans and vegetarians such as the Pasta al Tartufo, the Falafel Ghanoush and a Thai Burger. Don’t forget that the chefs at Maisie’s will always cater for any allergies and intolerances!

We were also asked whether we wanted to be the taste testers when ordering their new cocktails; each of which being an original concoction with truly inspired unique flavours.  First off, the ‘Double Denim’ can be described as the spiritual successor to a blue lagoon surpassing it in taste by using Aber Falls Orange Marmalade gin. Jacob’s personal favourite was the ‘Fizzy Fire’ describing the experience as “eye-opening to combine the rhubarb and Ginger Gin” and that it blew his mind having never seen any other establishment serving a cocktail of its nature. Last and certainly not least was the ‘Fruit to Fizz’. This is a beverage you could sip all day and not know you were drinking alcohol. It went down a little too well with us all. We were truly impressed with the love and care that went into creating this marvellous new array of cocktails and will certainly be back in the near future.

Maisie’s have some big plans for their corner of uplands, including the launch of a new student menu served all day Monday from 10am to 9pm where you can grab any meal on a select menu for £5.95! With no catch and little differences in portions, this is not a deal to sleep on.

Over dinner, we had a good chat with Steve as well as his mixologist Louis. There seems to be many ideas still in the works at Maisie’s. With a large screen being installed, they are hoping to show sporting events as well as the odd movie night, along with themed food! Think Greek Meze platters for Mamma Mia, Pasta for The Godfather, Cubanos for Chef! If this wasn’t enough for you, the idea of a Sunday Roast delivery service is also on the cards!

With friendly service, top of the line food and drink with plenty of events on the horizon, Maisie’s is worth your time. Period. So much so that the management team have said Students can claim 20% off any Brunch order from Monday to Friday if you bring a copy of this article! With the offer ending on the 31st March, there is no real excuse not to go! Bear in mind however, that you cannot combine this deal with any other promotion. Happy eating!
